I received an e-mail from Film Photography Podcast associate Rob Nunn the other day asking me about the various Polaroid film formats. The e-mail prompted me to produce this little video about the fantastic Polaroid Colorpack II camera.
In 2009, I launched The Film Photography Podcast, an hour-long, bi-monthly Internet radio program exploring my passion for film photography and covering a wide range of topics relevant to the experienced / aspiring photographer using film as a medium. Listen to The Film Photography Podcast http://filmphotographypodcast.com
I came across a pack of 500 film that had the words “Black Haus” printed on the film. The back of the film had a Polaroid web site for “events” printed. I imagine that back in the 1990s Polaroid produced special personalized film for corporate events. A quick google search yielded no information (most likely because of the infancy of the web in the early 1990s)
That's me in a dramatic pose on Polaroid “Black Haus” film
This oddball film format was produced for the 1990s-entry Captiva and JoyCam cameras began circa 1993 and disappeared by the early 2000s.

“My work as a photographer is part of a longstanding relationship with the camera that began with modeling. I have a fondness for film and a deep desire to photograph people as people, breaking from expected norms of beauty. In my work, I look for emotion, try to tell a story, and reveal the beauty in my characters. Beyond the aesthetic qualities imparted by instant film and long exposures, my empathetic relationship with the person in front of the camera infuses my images with comfortable intimacy and perhaps a touch of nostalgia. I create timeless images using a mix of Medium Format and Polaroid Film. I am a purist at heart.” - http://aprilleaphoto.carbonmade.com/about
blog by Michael Raso producer / host - The Film Photography Podcast
When I started the Film Photography Podcast Internet Radio Show (FPP) one year ago, one my goals was to provide a forum through which photographers using film could obtain news, tips, and share their art. As a photographer myself, it seemed logical and fun to offer giveaways as part of the bi-monthly show. To date, I’ve donated hundreds of rolls of film and over a dozen vintage film cameras from my personal collection. As the show began to pick up listeners, a funny thing happened – listeners started sending me their prized and quirky film cameras!
What makes her contribution even more special is the fact that she took the time to shoot some images with the Vivitar and included them in the package.
Emily said in her letter enclosed with the cameras – “I sent a couple of prints from the Vivitar PN2011…I really love that camera…It takes nice Lomo-quality shots and the panoramic option gives the photos even more character.”
Emily's donation cameras will be offered up in a "listener draw" later this year on the FPP.
Ian Cook (from the UK) turned me on to the 35mm Olympus Trip 35. Marketed in the UK from 1967 to 1984, this amazing camera was practically unknown in the United States. Ian, an authentic Trip enthusiast (known as a “Tripper),” has donated one to the pod cast, and I look forward to passing it along later this year.

I’d like to thank Dan Domme, Tony Kwong, Susan Goodwine and everyone else that has contributed recently to the show. Not only do you make my FPP experience special, but your generosity is helping film enthusiasts around the globe!
And, this month the fine folks at Freestyle Photographic in California USA donated a Holga 120 TLR camera. The Holga line of cameras are hugely popular and are used by amateurs and professionals alike! (Holga photography - think magazine photojournalist David Burnett’s fantastic Holga shot of US Vice President Al Gore!). Thanks to Freestyle for contributing to the Film Photography Podcast Give-Away program!
To enter this month’s contest, send an e-mail to FilmPhotographyPodcast@gmail.com Include your name, mailing address and a little about you and your photography. Please write “Holga” in your e-mail header and get entries in by October 21, 2010. One winner will be drawn on the November 15, 2010 episode.
That’s not all. We’re also giving away a copy of musician and photographer Pat Sansone’s book “100 Polaroids” (with a Polaroid camera) and free c-41 film processing courtesy of Sharp Photo & Portrait!
Listen in to Episode 17 / October 15, 2010 to get the scoop!
Thanks to your input and contributions, the Film Photography Podcast is becoming a global film project where everyone is a winner. Those donating are thrilled to put their cameras in the hands of eager, enthusiastic film shooters. The contest winners are ecstatic to receive a film camera they’ve never used or was never available in their corner of the world. Way to go, guys!
The Film Photography Podcast (Internet Radio Show) is celebrating Instant Photography by giving away a copy of Patrick Sansone’s new book “100 Polaroids.”
100 Polaroids is a Limited edition, hard bound book of 100 Polaroid photographs taken by Patrick Sansone on his various travels. Each book is individually numbered and signed. * * From the Wilco Store
Musician, Photographer Pat Sansone is a multi-instrumentalist in the rock bands The Autumn Defense and Wilco.
Sansone's tremendously tuned ear has led him to become a studio musician and producer. His own project The Autumn Defense was formed in New Orleans in 1999 with friend John Stirratt of Wilco, and the band is responsible for three full length albums. Pat and John’s new album “Once Around” will be available November 2, 2010. - http://theautumndefense.com/
While on tour, Pat roamed around downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, Polaroid in hand, snapping photographs of old parking lots and buildings. As he notes that Polaroid discontinued their line of film, he muses on the passing of an era. “It’s been interesting going around the country and going into small towns, because a lot of what I like to shoot is little details of old downtowns, capturing these little pieces of a fading America with a fading technology.”
My Polaroid One Step Close-Up camera that I'm giving away with Pat's book.
To make the giveaway extra special, I’m donating a Polaroid 600 One Step Close-Up from my personal collection of Polaroid cameras.
To enter the contest, send an e-mail to FilmPhotographyPodcast@gmail.com Include your name, mailing address and a little about you and your photography. Please get entries in by October 21, 2010. One winner will be drawn on the November 15, 2010 episode.

Here's a couple of posts explaining diffraction - one from the Luminous Landscape, and another from Cambridge In Colour. (Basically our lenses tend to be sharpest a couple of stops up from wide-open, so with an f/3.5, you'll get sharpest shots at f5.6 or f8. (It does depend on the lens though.)
